About

I’m JM Chung.

What I’m Watching

We’re living through a compression of change that’s hard to fully grasp in real time. A handful of forces are colliding at once — AI compressing cognitive work, crypto restructuring financial rails, US tech policy reshaping global capital flows, and a quiet but massive shift in how systems are built and who controls them.

I watch these signals closely. Not because I have all the answers, but because the patterns matter — and most coverage either moves too fast to be useful or too slow to be honest.

Why I Built This

Signal Layer started as a personal forcing function. Writing is how I think. Publishing is how I stay accountable.

Most research disappears into closed channels — Discords, group chats, paywalled newsletters. I wanted a public record of how I’m reading the landscape: what I’m tracking, what I’m building, what I’m changing my mind on.

This isn’t a media publication. It’s a working document.

How I Think About What’s Coming

The tools are changing faster than the frameworks to understand them. That gap — between capability and comprehension — is where most of the interesting problems live.

I think the next decade is less about which technology wins and more about who builds the mental models to navigate the transition. That’s what I’m trying to work out here.
